This case study explores the forces that influence U.S. policy regarding global family planning.  It asks students to analyze the sources of change and continuity affecting this policy since the early 1960s, and to decide what mix of policy options would best reflect and reconcile the various interests and ideas that confront policymakers today. The study could be used in a wide range of courses on international relations, U.S. foreign policy, international cooperation, and women in world politics. It could also be used to explore various theoretical concepts, such as the nature of the policymaking process and the links between domestic politics and international relations.
