This multi-part case study focuses on the United Nations Secretary General’s good offices during the Falkland/Malvinas Islands crisis of 1982. It analyzes the complex conditions under which the U.N. operates as an instrument of conflict management. Designed to involve the students in making decisions about whether and when to engage in a mediation mission, the study is useful as a supplement to materials on the United Nations. It could also be used with the Model United Nations project.
